NFT Ownership Changes and Account Settlement

What follows the NFT when it is transferred, and why the answer must live in contracts, not on a website.

A funded NFT-bound account raises a consequential question: what follows the NFT when it is transferred?

An account linked directly to the token owner may recognise a new controller immediately after a transfer, even though it holds USDC, debt or orders created by the former owner.

Ownership protection objective

No one should accidentally sell a Mote with unrecognised financial exposure, and no buyer should unexpectedly inherit hidden liabilities or unreviewed agent permissions.

Safe transfer flow

  1. Holder requests transferapplication inspects the agent account
  2. Identify commitmentsbalances, debt, liquidity, open orders
  3. Suspend authorisationrevoke or expire the active agent session
  4. Settle positionsrepay debt, cancel orders, unwind positions
  5. Withdraw or explicitly convey assetsclear confirmation of treatment
  6. Permit transfertransfer policy enforced on-chain
  7. Update controlvalidate the new owner and permissions

A website-only warning is not enough

NFT transfers can happen through marketplaces or direct contract calls. If the protocol requires empty-account transfers or formal transfer acceptance, the relevant contracts, or an equivalently enforceable mechanism, must enforce it. A button on the official website is not enforcement.

Transfer policy is material

The final transfer mechanism will be disclosed prominently before funded accounts and secondary-market trading are enabled. Depending on the chosen model, positions may need to be closed before transfer, conveyed under an explicit assumption of obligations, or isolated from the NFT control pathway. None of these outcomes should be inferred from collectible ownership alone.
